A total of 213 endowments have been completed in California since the 1950s:

  • Career Development Grants               74

  • International Fellowships                    22

  • Community Action Grants                  55 

  • American Fellowships                         44

  • Selected Professions Grants                17

How Much?

American and International endowments require $200,000 to be funded.

Career Development, Community Action and Selected Professions Grant endowments

require $75,000 each.


Meeting the Need?

In 2007 – 08 EF made 253 grants/awards totaling $4.1 million:

  • American Fellowships                         8 awards (1036 applicants)

  • International Fellowships                    66 awards (957 applicants)

  • Community Action Grants                  29 awards (193 applicants)                            

  • Career Development Grants               40 awards   (649 applicants)

  • Selected Professions Fellowships        26 awards (97 applicants)

  • Special Awards                                   4 (application # unknown)

The total number of applications for the year was 2932.

Unfunded applications number 2679.  Clearly the need for EF continues.
